Have a few cracks and creaks around the house?  Don't rush to hire a handyman.  Here are a few fairly simple and quick weekend home repair projects you can do yourself.

1) To silence a squeaky wood floor, sprinkle the loose boards with baby powder and sweep it into the cracks.

2) If a faucet leaks, replace the washer.  Use soft washers for cold water taps and harder washers for hot.

3) In order to patch a crack in the drywall, widen it first.  Pull a screwdriver along the crack, and then seal the gouge with joint compound.

4) Remove oil stains from your driveway or garage floor be sprinkling clay cat litter on the stain, grinding it in with your shoe, and then sweeping it after it settles for an hour.  Alternately, you can spray the stains with WD-40, let them soak, and then rinse after 15 minutes.

5) To re-caulk your bathtub, remove the old caulk with a scraper.  If it needs softening, use a blow dryer.  After removing, wipe the areas down with denatured alcohol and let them dry overnight.  Reseal with a new bathtub-septic caulk and let it drive for 24 hours before getting water on it!

6) Unclog sinks by pouring 1/4 cup of baking soda into the drain followed by one cup of vinegar.  Cover the drain with a lid after pouring, and then flush it out with hot water after 15 minutes.
