Enlarging your living space may not always be possible, but there are ways you can create the illusion of spaciousness.  Here are a few ideas to maximize the space in your home:

1) The least expensive and most efficent - Reduce the clutter!

2) Arrange furniture in small conversational groups away from the walls with walkways between them.

3) Scale furniture and accessories to balance with the size of the room.  Select pieces that have simple lines and shapes.  Low benches, ottomans, and armless chairs are ideal for small spaces.

4) Painting walls in lighter hues or natural tones can help make small rooms appear larger.  You can also paint one wall with a dark or bold color to draw attention to that area.  This will trick the eye and make the wall seem more distant so the room will appear more spacious.

5) Give walls a sense of height with the right window treatments.  Sheer fabrics will allow light to shine through a room.  Avoid heavy drapes.

Remember, in a small space, Less is More!
